CAPEX Update: Solar Rooftop Expansion Project
Phelps Dodge Philippines (PDP) continues to accelerate its renewable energy initiatives through the ongoing expansion of its Solar Rooftop Project at the manufacturing facility. Building on the success of the initial solar installation completed in 2023, the expansion project further strengthens PDP’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing, energy efficiency, and long-term operational resilience.
Expansion Project Progress
The Solar Rooftop Expansion Project officially received final design approval on February 18, 2026, followed by the project kickoff meeting on March 25, 2026. Site mobilization commenced on April 17, 2026, marking the start of installation activities across multiple facility locations.
To date, PDP has successfully completed the installation of 830 additional solar panels distributed across key operational areas, including:
- Raw Materials Warehouse (RMW) – 464 panels
- Chemical Storage Facility – 126 panels
- Energy Building Plant 1 – 108 panels
- Energy Building Plant 2 – 68 panels
- Annealing/Curing Facility – 64 panels
The expanded installation significantly increases PDP’s on-site renewable generation capacity while maximizing available rooftop space throughout the manufacturing complex.
Supporting Infrastructure Enhancements
In parallel with the solar panel installation, PDP has completed the installation of major cable bridge systems connecting critical facilities, including:
- Raw Materials Warehouse to Plant 1
- Energy Building 2 to Plant 2
- Annealing/Curing Facility to Energy Building 2
These infrastructure upgrades ensure efficient and reliable power distribution across the plant.
Installation activities also continue for additional monkey ladders and cable bridge systems linking the Chemical Storage Facility to the FGW area, supporting safe access and long-term maintenance requirements for the expanded solar network.
Commissioning and Commercial Operations
Testing and commissioning activities are scheduled for June 25–29, 2026, with commercial operations targeted to begin on June 30, 2026.
Once fully operational, the expanded solar rooftop system will further reduce PDP’s dependence on conventional electricity sources, improve energy cost stability, and contribute to the company’s broader ESG and decarbonization objectives.
Advancing Toward 100% Renewable Operations
The Solar Rooftop Expansion Project complements PDP’s planned transition to 100% renewable electricity sourcing by 2026. Together, these initiatives represent a major milestone in the company’s sustainability journey—demonstrating PDP’s continued commitment to responsible manufacturing, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.
Through continued investments in renewable energy infrastructure, PDP reinforces its vision of building a cleaner, more resilient future for both its operations and the communities it serves.
